Soaps. Posted by: Claire

Whilst thinking bout the different ways of showing change rather then using Graphs, thinking bout the smell, i thought about touch too. What about both senses? Touching something then smelling it to determin the size and useage of it. Maybe disguiseing it too?

So i thought about Soap. Smell’s, can have verious textures. Hard, guey, Wet, Soft. Thought it would be interesting to use.

I gave out 5 soaps to family and i said use this to wash with, as much as you want to. I gave it to them on sunday morning, kept an eye on them, drew around them and measured the diameter of the soap. I made boxes for them to be stored in, with the ability to reach in and feel them too.

This is What i have done:

Soap 002

Soap 066

The boxes 007

Tea Anyone? Posted by: Claire

I have left graphs for now.

I started thinking of different ways of showing different amounts.

Could you smell different amounts?

I kept track on how many Tea bags the house hold was using in the space of 5 days. And i thought about how to show the usage through smell. I brought some loose tea as i thought it will be more potant then Tea bags.   So in a way i created my own tea bag, using a tea-spoon of loose tea to represent every tea bag used on a day, pouring it into a food bag then peircing small holes, letting the smell out.  I then thought about how i could conceal the bags into something which will perhaps be easier to smell out off.

This is what i created:

Tea Boxes 001

Tea Boxes 006

The boxes 003

All 5 boxes have various amounts of tea in them. Hopefully with them sealed and little smell holes, you should be able to smell the different amounts of tea. If not can defenatly feel the difference in weight.

Tell Me What You Think.

Do ya wanna hear summit funny? Posted by: Claire

My measurements are completely wrong.

When measuring i didn’t consider the area of the bottle, just the length of the milk. So i worked out the Area of milk in the bottle with the existing measurements. And it worked out that the measurements have gained a lot.

My next step is to use the comments made previously and attempt to remake the graphs of milk with the right measurements.

What a nidiot!!

Milk Bottles Posted by: Claire

After looking at the NDC Graphs i felt that i wanted to go ahead and try my own.  So i decided to look at the milk, i collected 5 days worth of measurements, and i wanted to show the differences in measurements. So i drew 2 bottles because my family have 2 different bottles of milk, Skimmed and Whole Milk.

So these are my milks.

NDC Posted by: Claire

I looked up some books in the Library on Information Design.  I found a book with lot’s of Information design in it, i looked at the Graphs and tables, Explanatory Design and System diagrams and Scores sections. I found a japanese company called NDC. They have some really unusual takes on how they present the statistics.  This will  defiantly  influence my ideas on how to present my information that i have collected.

Info_NDC

This diagram shows the amount of chocolate brought in a month.

Info_NDC_3

This graph shows the amount of people feeling age.

Info_NDC_2

Depicts the best japanese overseas destinations.

I really find these interesting, they make the usual boring information look really fun, bright and eye catching. This is what i am aiming for. :)
